After the silence and the fading spirits, there comes a moment of choice. This powerful duet captures the steps toward reconciliation as two people try to bridge the gap created by neglect and the pursuit of material wealth.
When I wrote these lyrics, I wanted to focus on the vulnerability of the bridge-building process. Dwight’s admission of putting away the “heavy ego” and Mary Jane’s question about whether this is a “temporary stop” reflect the deep lack of trust that happens when a partner has been emotionally absent. It is a reflection on the courage it takes to try again and the necessity of sharing the load equally.
